Split Core Cable Current
Transformer

3. Cable diameter up to 120 mm with plastic insulation,
cable diameter 160 mm, 200 mm with cast resin insulation
4. Type GAE 3 split core cable transformers are maintenance
free current transformers. They are designed for indoor
installation and can be mounted in any position. (They
are, however, not suitable for fixing the cable.) The
use of split- cores permits a safe and timesaving installation
on already laid low-voltage cables (resp. high-voltage
cables with an earth coating).
GAE 3 for measuring earth leakage

2. The transformers have high permeability cores and are
used for measuring ground current in discharged or insulated
three-phase networks, they are without current while in
earth-free use. In case of an earthleakage the balance
of the current in the cable is tilted and the resultant
earth-leakage current excites the transformer. Depending
on the way how the earth-leakage is measured, the resultant
secondary current and/or a voltage transformer equivalent
installed in the branch circuit actuates the attached
earth-detector or direction relay as well as any other
attached indicating instrument.
